Is Therapy Confidential?

Yes!  Rest assured that the information that you share in counseling sessions is strictly confidential and will only be disclosed to a necessary third party under particular circumstances.  If a client feels suicidal or homicidal, your counselor is required by law to take steps to insure your safety as well as the safety of others.  Along the same lines, a counselor is under mandatory obligation to report any child abuse, elder abuse, or abuse of handicapped persons in a client's care.  Another situation that may warrant disclosure of information is if your counselor is subpoenaed to testify in court.  Outside of these situations, information will only be released with a client's written consent.
